PSU to IO vs IO to PSU

Hi Team,

What is the different between

Dell EMC Switch S4148T-ON, 1U, 48 x 10Gbase-T, 4 x QSFP28, 2 x QSFP+, PSU to IO, 2 PSU, OS10

and

Dell EMC Switch S4148T-ON, 1U, 48 x 10Gbase-T, 4 x QSFP28, 2 x QSFP+, IO to PSU, 2 PSU, OS10

That is in reference to the airflow of the fans. Here is some additional information: http://dell.to/2pdKmUa

"Architectural features to optimize data center network flexibility, efficiency and availability include IO panel to PSU airflow or PSU to IO panel airflow for hot/cold aisle environments and redundant, hot-swappable power supplies and fans."

As Daniel have mentioned, it refers to the airflow of the FAN. In the PSU to IO, the air will flow from the power supply unit (PSU) to the IO panel, this is the common setup in a ToR, because the PSU will face the front of the cabinet rack.

Hi, can customer change S4048 switch from IO to PSU config to PSU to IO config after point of sales?

Hi!

I have IO-to-PSU FANs and PSUs installed at the moment. I have bought the PSU-to-IO FANs and PSUs. Is it possible to change them while not turning off the switch?

Thanks!

Hi,

You can replace the PSU and FAN without turning the switch off. They are hot swap components.

But while replacing each component, the airflow direction is mixed and disrupted. This can cause the switch temperature to rise and may overheat the switch. There is a note in the user guide stating:

"

CAUTION:Complete the following steps within one minute or the switch temperature could rise above safe thresholds and the switch could shut down"
