Powerconnect 2162DS and 4322DS SIps

Hi Guys/Gals,

Can someone give me a list of the dell PN/s that work with the above ?  The manueals don't have it, the web site doesnt have it, and well I am totally lost now :/

Does for example the Dell PN: K5GRD work with the above units ? Or what does Avocent wise?

All help greatly appreciated :)

Dell online chat really does need to be avoided :

I have spent 20 mins on the live chat to someone at dell - waste of time.

I then spent another 25 minutes in different queues and going round in circles on telephone numbers given to me by dell online chat :(

Those are for the older 2161DS, and are not validated on the newer models, they may work, but we have not tested them.

Hi Josh,

What are the model numbers for the media SIPS ?  I notice there are 5 SIP types that can be used with the 2132DS and 4332DS, old and new PNs would be great :-)

The 5 sips that work with your hardware are

Serial adapter 2H7CW

PS2 adapter 357GP

USB 9CKJ5

VM CAC 9F3C7

VM 9X2P9

I got the 2162DS so I do not have to deal with the usb remote access key.  What is the advantage of the VM-CAC SIP (9FJC7) versus just the VM SIP (9X2P9) with the Dell 2162DS?  I do plan to used the KVM on both Local and remote access.

CAC (Common Access Card) support is a high-resolution USB2-based SIP that supports Virtual Media (VM) and smart cards/CAC. If your environment does not need this feature, no need to get it.

Just for clarification

1. So on the 2162DS, I can just get the USB2/VM only SIP (Part num: 9X2P9), and it will work fine?

2. Do I need the CAC USB key on the 2162DS in order to have access to the server over the LAN?

Thanks

1.Yes that part will work.

2.Yes, on one end of the cable is the VGA and USB, and other end is a RJ45 port where you would plug the Ethernet cable in.

I believe you misunderstood me.  On some of the analog Dell KVM, you need the CAC USB key in order to have remote access functionality.  I presume this is the same on the Dell 2162DS.  If this is the case, than what benefit does the CAC enable SIP buy you on the 2162DS?

There is no USB CAC key on the 2162DS. The CAC enabled SIP is used when your environment uses smart cards. If you don't use smart cards, then no need to get the CAC enabled SIP.

Here is a link to the user guide, it may help in setting up the KVM.

Bingo, that is exactly the clarification I was looking for

"The CAC enabled SIP is used when your environment uses smart cards."

Sorry to bring up an older thread.. but I'm having similar problems. I have a 2162DS-2 and I can't get a 9F3C7 to work. It acts as a standard SIP for video/keyboard but I can't use virtual media. The 2162DS-2 displays it as 'unknown. I've also just ordered 2 9X2P9 SIP's to see if they will work. Can you offer any advice on that at all? :)

What type of media are you using? What file type is on the media?

Thanks

That's the problem - I can't do anything with media because the option to do it is greyed out. I can't select any kind of media at all.
