Problem with default vlan (1) over Lag between Powerconnect 8024F and 5448

Hi All!

I have a problem with getting default vlan (1)  working over a Lag between Powerconnect 8024F and 5448, I can see in the 8024 that vlan 1 is Trunked on the LAG and in the 5448 Untagged....  I read somewhere that in new Firmwares the vlan 1  default is Trunked?! , so my question is if i uppgrade the 5448 with the latest firmware will it solve my problem..

5448 Version:

Software Version 2.0.0.41

Boot Version 2.0.0.0

Hardware Version 00.00.02

8024f Version:

Software Version 3.1.4.5

Boot Version 3.1.4.5

If I'm not mistaken, When trunking a port on the PCT8024 vlan 1  will not pass. I suspect that you may want to use general mode and tagged the other needed vlans.

SO you mean that I should set the 4 member Ports and the LAG in general mode,  Whats the difference between Trunk and general.

Correct, I seem to recall that truck mode on the PCT8024 will not pass vlan 1. If you change the LAG to general mode and tagged the needed vlans, vlan 1 will pass untagged and the vlans you add will pass tagged. As far as the PCT5448 you an leave the LAG group in trunk mode as vlan 1 will pass untagged. If we are using a LAG to connect the 5448 to the 8024; The LAG on the PCT5448 would be in trunk mode and the LAG on the PCT8024 would be in general mode. Just make sure that the tagged vlans match on both switches.

With the latest firmware for the 8024, and for other Broadcom-based PowerConnect switches using version 4.x firmware, general mode would be the way to go.  On the 8024, if you configure a port or port-channel as a trunk, it will carry VLAN 1 as tagged.  Use general mode and VLAN 1 will be on the link by default as untagged.
