Securely uploading configuration into a X1000 series switch

Hi,

I want to use a script to automatically upload new configuration into a X1052P. As the CLI on this switch is very limited, I see this as the only sane way to dynamically change the running config with a script.

But how can I securely upload a new config into the switch?

I tried to log in via ssh and then use the copy command. But it seems to just allow t_ftp as source. t_ftp is completely out of question as it has no kind of encryption or authentication. The documentation mentions xmodem, but the switch seems to not allow it for copying the config.

(I had to write t_ftp as there seems to be some protection mechanism in the forum forbidding to write it without _)

Hi,

HTTP,T FTP,USB and flash are the only supported methods for updating the firmware. Page 85 https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/common/networking-x-series-ug_en-us.pdf

I do not see a way to do it with any secure CLI method on this switch, just what you have already mentioned.

I was asking about updating the configuration, not about updating the firmware.

Also the page you are mentioning describes doing file upload over the web ui of the switch. Using the web ui from a script is possible, but requires cumbersome html scraping and parsing. So I'm looking for a way to do it on the cli interface with ssh.

Would it be possible that you create a feature request for this for a future firmware release?

Xmodem seems to be already supported as upload method for the firmware, also just pasting files until a line with a "." is already used for importing https certificates. So uploading files with one of these methods shouldn't be too hard to implement.

Thank you.

Unfortunately, feature requests are not something we can do through the forums. You will need to call in to see about a feature request. Here is a link with contact numbers: https://dell.to/2hl7lJw
