Unable to use non-Dell qualified cables?

I connected a couple of QSFP+ cables between my dell S6010 switch and another S6000. However, I can not get the "link" between them to become UP.

As the manual states, that even though it may not be supported it should still work, but I am unable to get the link to become up?

"You can use non-Dell qualified cables, adapters, and optics in a S4048-ON switch, but Dell Networking does not guarantee their performance as the S4048-ON does not support non-Dell qualified 40G transceivers."

Should I understand that even though Dell states that it should work, some cables won't be able to work? I found some Reddit users expressing the same problems.

Would it be possible to get some information on whether I should expect some vendor cables to not work? Also from my understanding, there isn't any command to change this?

Hi,

Try updating the firmware to the latest version. If that doesn’t work you may need to use Dell optics.

On S4148U-ON to get 40Gigs supported Dell direct-attach cables to come up after switch reload I had to add

negotiation off

to interface configuration. That was not documented anywhere and was result of just 'trying everithing'.

Without that command, cables worked until switch reboot and then nothing would bring them up, always 'Line up, protocol down'.

So try to play with that setting, maybe you'll need on or auto setting..
