connecting 62xx

Thanks a lot. My problem now is i am failing to get the stacked switches dell 6224 firmware 3.2.1.3 to trunk them to another dell switch of the same make and firmware. i cant seem to get the trunk ports working on the two switches. i want to be able to see the machines from the LAN. i also tried to install a wireless access point but it fails. when i connect a laptop to the same port it is able to see the machines. where am i going wrong?

Firmware 4.0 introduces a change in trunk mode behavior. In models that use earlier firmware such as the 54XX and 62XX, trunk mode defaults to no VLAN's and they are added individually to the port. In Version 4.0 and later when a port is placed in switchport mode trunk, the default is all and unwanted VLAN's need to be removed.

Sample trunk configuration:

console# configure

console(config)# interface ethernet e11

console(config-if)# switchport mode trunk

console(config-if)# switchport trunk allowed vlan add 100

console(config-if)# end

Since you have the 3.2.1.3 firmware you would need to add each specific vlan in order for it to traverse over the trunk.

Also, if you have a LAG (Channel-group) you would need to set the trunk up on the LAG level and not the individual ethernet ports.

Thanks a lot. Could you elaborate when you say i need to add each specific vlan? I had routing enabled on my Vlan interfaces and all was working well. unfortunately my supervisor does not want routing enabled. I have been trying to create uplink trunks on the dell 6224 but i cannot seem to have access to the hosts behind the vlans. I have tried the general mode and even this has failed. I really would appreciate a sample config without using routing. another question is does trunking work on 6224 firmware 3.2.1.3? here is a my complete config:

I have something almost working but i had to enable ip routing on the stacked switches which is against my supervisors wishes. I cant seem to get the trunk uplink to work. or the general mode unless i enable ip routing. Is it possible to have the stacked environment of these three switches have an uplink connection to another intermediate dell switch for administration and the general population?
