powerconnect 2824 VLAN
Hello everybody,
It is the first time i have to configure a Dell switch and I have trouble setting up my VLANs.
I need 3 VLAN:
VLAN1 : internet connected with a router for the internet access
VLAN2 : public with 2 wireless router for public
VLAN3 : private for the office and printers
Vlan1 set up
1 2
U U
Vlan 2 set up
1 - 8
U U
Vlan 3 set up
1 2 9-24
U U U U
PVID set up:
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24

I really apologize for this beginner question but can you tell me what's wrong with this set up?

Hi,
You can’t have multiple untagged VLANs on the same ports. VLAN 2 and 3 need to be set as tagged ports.

It still doesn't work. Can you tell me what's wrong? And what about the LAG configuration? Once again thanks for your help.

The Tag and untagged settings look fine to me, however the PVID should correspond with the untagged VLAN on the interface. It may be more helpful to know what devices you are plugging into these ports? If you are plugging in VLAN unaware clients into ports that are set to be tagged for a VLAN, communication will not be successful.
If clients are VLAN unaware (laptops, desktops, printers), then the port will need to be set to untagged for the desired VLAN. The PVID will also need to be set to untagged. As an example, if you are plugging a laptop into port 24, and want that laptop to be in VLAN 3, then the port needs to be set to U for VLAN 3 and the PVID needs to be set to VLAN 3.

Hello Daniel,
Once again thanks for your time.Sorry I couldn't come back to you earlier.
To be more specific:
Vlan 1 : internet router
vlan 2 : public with one wifi router for visitors
vlan3 : office with computers and printers
Router is providing internet to the 2 other vlan
Vlan 2 and vlan 3 cannot communicate.
So can you tell me which config will make it work? the switch before that was a buffalo and the config is totally different...It's my first dell and I will appreciate you give me the detailed configuration which can make it.

The 2824 is not able to route between VLANs, it is strictly layer 2. This means that the router will need to perform all layer 3 functions.
The port connecting to the router will need to be configured to tag VLANs 2 and 3, while leaving VLAN 1 untagged.
The router will also need to be configured the same way. It will need to tag VLAN 2 and 3, while leaving VLAN 1 untagged.
Based on the config from your previous post, ports 1 or 2 are setup correctly for a router connection.
What model router are you using?

Hi,
we have two 2824 switches, which are configured in single subnet. Now we have to connect with another area - they have cisco switches and need L3 connection between Dell and these infra. can you please help?

The 2824 is a L2 switch and is not capable of performing L3 functions. To connect the 2824 to the Cisco switch, you will need to copy the Cisco ports configuration. If the Cisco is configured for access mode, then the 2824 will also need to be set to untagged. If the Cisco is set to Trunk, then so will the 2824.
If it is required that you connect a L3 switch to the Cisco switch, then you will need to source a L3 switch to use.
