what protocol of spanning trree should i use?

We have in our campus two entities that are cooperating.

THey have both their core network which are routing vlans but they share

some vlans.

Both cisco router use rapid-pvst+ as protocol of spanning trees.

Dell won the consultation for replcing both routeurs and we bought two pairs

of 8164F.

people from Dell came to install it but they put rstp as protocol for spanning trees.

i m bit puzzled about that because with rstp we should have only one root switch

and we have two switchs that should be root switch.

ideally the stack for the institution A should be the root the vlans of institutation A

and the stack of the institution B should be the root for the vlans of institituion B.

Sould i move to mstp as it s both supported by dell and the rest of cisco switches we still

have?

Here is roughly what we want to do.

There s two core network that cooperating.

They share vlans but some are routed on the G1 network and others are routed on the G2 network.

Then i guess G1 switchs should be the root for G1 vlans and G2 switches should the the root for G2 vlans

Then i should go to multi vlan spanning tree protocols.

On the aggregation vlans there some cisco who can only use pvst+ , rapid-pvst2 or mstp
