Can't connect to Internet via WIFI on my Dell Inspiron 15R (N5010)
Hi,
I recently started facing this problem. My laptop shows list of available wifi hotspots but cant connect to any wifi network.
Please note that i am using correct SSID and password.
I tried to reinstall wifi drivers and initially it solved the problem.
But it keeps coming back. This fix stopped working one day and even reinstalling the driver wont help.
Then I deleted the driver, downloaded latest drivers from dell site and installed them. It worked but again fix was not permanent.
I also tried connecting to wifi network in "safe mode with networking" but that did not work either.
Now I am not able to connect to internet via wifi and no solution seems to work.
My laptop details:
Model: Dell Inspiron N5010
OS: Windows 7 Home premium SP1
Processor: i3
RAM: 4 GB
Please help.

Hi Rick,
Thanks for a prompt response.
Strange enough my wifi started working fine today.
Although I am sure the problem is gonna come back as it does regularly.
Here is the output of ipconfig as you asked for:
As of now it is somehow working fine. Whenever the problem comes back (that i hope soon), I'll post again (with fresh ipconfig output if you want).
Till then thanks a lot.

coffeewithsuds,
Sorry for the delay, work.
Try reading Intel® WiFi Products — Power Save Polling (PSP) causes connection issues with some access points
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options\Create a Power Plan
Select High performance.
Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Hi Rick,
As I said, the problem is back again. Infact it comes and goes automatically.
I followed all the steps you suggested in the previous post. But it doesn't seem to make much of difference.
Here is the output of ipconfig when I WIFI is not connecting.

coffeewithsuds,
What is the make and model of your wireless router?
What type of security are you using?
What channel?

Hi Rick,
I am using Beetel 450 TC1 wifi modem. My service provider is Airtel and I have been using this model for a long time now.
Security Type: WPA2-Personal
Encryption Type: TKIP
I am not sure about the channel. How do I find out?

coffeewithsuds,
I use these Recommended Wireless Router Settings I use channel 11. I would make a new SSID to make connecting easier.

coffeewithsuds,
When you changed the Security, you probably should have changed the SSID to make connecting easier. I would change to channel 11 and make a new SSID.
WPA2-PSK should be fine unless you have some wireless devices, like printers, cell phones, game systems. Some of these connect with WPA-PSK(TKIP) Security(Personal) better.
When there is a connection problem, usually during Electrical storms or power flickers, it messes with the wireless connection. The easy solution is usually...
Power off your ISP modem/router and your wireless router(if any) for 30 seconds. Then power on the ISP modem/router. Wait 15 seconds, then power on the wireless router(if any)
Restart the computer and try to connect.
What happens?

Hi Rick,
I did just that. I shutdown both the modem and my laptop for about a minute and then restarted after changing the settings.
I changed just the security type and not the SSID or password. Channel 1 is default for India and changing it does not seem to be a good idea.
I forgot to mention that, we have another dell laptop and 3 android phones that use the same wireless router for internet
and none of these is facing any trouble connecting to the network. Only my laptop has started facing this problem off late.
I am currently connected to network using USB tethering via my smartphone.

Hi Rick,
I checked my wifi driver settings and they are exactly same as you mentioned.
I also noticed that my laptop is not able to connect even to Open hotspots without any security.
The only visible cause is the failure in obtaining IP address from the DHCP server.

coffeewithsuds,
When you reinstalled the operating system, did you install the Desktop/Notebook system software and the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order
Start with the Desktop/Notebook system software and the chipset drivers and follow the list.
Download the drivers from Drivers & Downloads enter your service tag number and save the file to your desktop.
Make a system restore point.
Start, control panel, device manager, network, right click on Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6200 AGN, left click uninstall. Tell it to also uninstall the drivers and software.
Restart the computer. When the computer is logged in, the new hardware wizard will find the adapter and install the drivers. If it doesn't work, then install the drivers you downloaded.
Try to connect. What happens?

I am having the same issue that Sudhanshu is having with the wi-fi going off on its own. I have been using the samewi-fi setup for a couple years and purchased my Dell N5010over 16 months ago. This just started about 4 months ago. It may be related to a software update. While sometimes I can turn the wi-fi on again by using the Ctrl-F2 keys most of the time it does not work. ANd the problem is increasing in frequency.
Is there any update on this problem? It is becoming a serious issue as I need to be able to make internet connected presentations.

JohnnoNYC,
What is the make and model of your wireless router and the type of security you're using? What channel?
Can you run an ipconfig /all log and post bit back here?
What virus program and firewall are you using?
