Cannot get network adapter driver to work - Error code 10

I have read many similar posts, but none exactly like mine.  I've tried and failed at the advice given in other posts, sooo...

Replaced the HDD in my wife's Inspiron 1420, Vista, Intel dual core T7250s

Broadcom 802.11n adapter

Kept all the disks shipped with the lappy, Prepped the HD per the media rules, loaded windows and the mediadirect and the driver resource CD..  they all had autoexecs and seem to run fine.   Failed to connect to the net.. checked it out on device mgr, found the code 10 fail..  All other drivers seemed to have loaded..

tried to update the driver..  it said it already had the correct driver. - fail

DLed the Broadcom driver to a thumb and installed it - no difference.  Rebooted..  several times during all this.

Read here it might be install order - thought I might try it manually.  Looked for Intel T7250 drivers.. "not currently available" here.

what am I missing?

Grakk,

Aftter you installed the operating system, did you install the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

Start with the chipset drivers and follow the order.

I hear ya PO, but I "thought" that the autorun on the Drivers and Utility disk would load everything in the right order.  Given that everything - except the adapter - seemed to work and show a driver loaded..  I assumed I was done.  lol.

It seems that disk is pointless.  It did not load drivers in a correct order nor did it give me any options to do so.  Sooo..  starting the process over today and doing it from service tag downloads.  Will follow up.

Grakk,

Start with the chipset drivers, then follow the order. Things should start working.

Before I fail again, I want to ask about the driver install order.  I have seen a couple lists, but they do not line up with the driver categories I got from my service tag.  I did the chipset, then stopped.  Can you add an order to the drivers below?

Application  Dell Application R198174-1.exe(29MB)

Application  Sonic Solutions-Application R186378.exe(13MB)

Audio SIGMATEL-Driver R171786.exe(8MB)

BIOS Dell-BIOS 1420_A10.EXE(1MB)

Chipset Ricoh-Driver R141246.EXE(581KB)  - Done

Communications Conexant-Diagnostics Utility R147130.EXE(4MB)

Communications Conexant-Driver R150152.exe(2MB)

Communications Conexant-Utility R148605.exe(3MB)

Diagnostics Dell-Diagnostics Utility DDUP1301.EXE(2MB)

Diagnostics Dell-Diagnostics Utility CW1337A0.exe(3MB)

Input Dell-Driver R165804.exe(3MB)

Network Broadcom-Diagnostics Utility R151336.EXE(11MB)

I didn't know this until today. But I always thought we could install the wireless driver without having to install the chipset driver first. Anyways, I hope the information below helps about the error code. http://imagicon.info/cat/12-4/vbulletin-smile.gif

Common causes of Code 10 errors...

The driver is out-of-date.

The driver is missing.

The driver is corrupt.

A previous attempt to update the driver failed.

The device is not configured as the default device.

The device is not plugged in correctly or all the way.

The device is damaged.
