Fairy Godmother,
What virus program and firewall are you using?
Can you run Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and REGISTERED OWNER and post the information back here.

Fairy Godmother,
A log would help to see the model and the ip address, etc. Avast will not be a problem. Do you have anything else installed, like Malwarebytes Pro?
Places to look to see if your Connection is enabled

Fairy Godmother,
Start, control panel, network and sharing center. Click on your connection, click on properties. Look for TCP/IPv4 and TCP/IPv6 and click on properties for each. Have your settings match mine.
Power off your ISP modem/router and your wireless router(if any) for 30 seconds. Then power on the ISP modem/router. Wait 15 seconds, then power on the wireless router(if any)
Restart the computer and try to connect.
What happens?
