Connecting to 5GHZ wireless router

I have 2 laptops (Inspiron 1525 and 1545) and was wondering if I can connect to my Dual Band 5GHZ router with this?  I don't see the SSID in my wireless area on my computer.

Are my laptops compatible with a 5GHZ connection?  If not, is there an adapter for it, how much is it, and it is easy to do?

Please can you help me resolve a wifi performance issue with my Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop?  I have recently upgraded to BT Infinity 1 (fibre to the household) Superfast Broadband service, but I am not getting Superfast performance!!  In fact it's not much better than the old copper speeds of 16Mbps and 1Mpbs.

I have run the BT Speed Tests several times from the laptop, and at best get Download speed 22Mbps and Upload 1.9Mps.  I have checked and the wireless card is a 1395.  I'm assuming that as the laptop is about 6 years old it doesn's support dual-band wifi @ 5ghz?  Is there a fix for this please?

Thanks for your help.

wigggle,

The 1395 adapter works on 2.4GHz only and if my memory serves me correctly, is a single stream adapter.

Could you tell me if any of the wireless cards (Dual-band card which supports 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz.) are compatible with the Inspiron 5721?

Thanks

Hi Rick,

Could you please tell me what the problem might be with my Vostro 3550? It has an Intel Centrino Wireless-n 1030 #2 wireless card. It supports b/g/n, of which "n" I believe is 5 Ghz (along with "a"). I seems I also can't see my 5 GHz router. Thank you.

Alex,

The Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1030 works on 2.4GHz ONLY and has Bluetooth. To qualify as wireless N, it's about the speed, not the frequency the wireless adapter is using.

Thanks Rick, I recently discovered that this was most likely the problem. Are there any other options, i.e. purchasing an external card that supports the 5 GHz standard or maybe replacing the current card (which probably cannot happen I assume due to the fact that the laptop is compatible only with the existing wireless adapter.). Thank you.

@PudgyOne

Hey,
I have Dell Inspiron 1525 which was originally shipped with Vista OS. I have upgraded it to Windows 7 and it was working fine, but recently I have upgraded my internet router from 2.7 GHZ to 5 GHZ and now my Laptop does not detect the new router, however I am still able to connect it with my mobile hotspot and old router (2.7 GHZ).
Can someone please suggest me a work around?

Regards,

Nitesh

Nitesh,

You will have to purchase a wireless adapter that works on 5.0ghz. The wireless adapter in the system will only connect to 2.4ghz.

I`ve read a few posts of you, many of them says: 1490 wifi card from Dell 1525 is a dual band, 2.4 and 5Ghz. My "new" 1490 wifi card doesn`t "see" the 5g network... Can you tell me what is wrong?

This below solution worked so well, thanks.

Change the Advanced card properties:

  • Right click on the wireless card in 'Device manager' and click on 'properties'.
  • Go to 'Advanced' and select 'Roaming aggressiveness'.
  • Change it to 'Highest'.
  • Check if the issue is fixed.
