Dell Inspiron laptop unable to connect wirelessly to netgear modem

i am having problems connecting or maintaining a wireless connection with my netgear router. i have another laptop that has no issues connecting, and other devices like phones also are able to connect so thinking it must be a laptop issue. the laptop connected fine before  and have just changed accounst and modemss recently.

it connects with ethernet and then remains connected briefly when cable removed for perhaps 10 minutes and then drops out.

if i try to connect manually (wireless) it is unable to make a connection ad the trouble shooter cant resolve.

the driver shecks ot as enabled and also being current.

ive tried looging on as an adminsistrator to refresh the connencted devices and this didnt have any impact either.

seems to have run ot of ideas?

in additn my laptop, connects to wirless mobile broadband suggesting it is something to do with the relationship between the specific router and laptop

Hi Jonathan,

As you have mentioned, that the laptop connects to the internet with an ethernet cable, however, the connectivity drops when you try connecting wirelessly. This seems to be a problem with the wireless card or may be the connection is not configured properly. To verify, we need to check the drivers as well as the configuration. I would recommend you to try the following steps:

1.       Please check for the Wireless Radio switch or press FN+F2 to ensure that the switch is on.

2.       Now go to Device Manager and select the wireless driver listed under network adapter.

3.       Uninstall the wireless driver and restart the computer.

4.       Once the laptop is restarted, reconnect your laptop to the ethernet cable so that there is an internet connection.

5.       Once you are connected, go to support.dell.com > click drivers & downloads > insert the system Service Tag > select the wireless driver and install it. You will find the link to update the BIOS on the same page.

6.       Once you are done installing the updates, restart the computer and try to connect to the available wireless connection.

In case of any difficulty while performing the above mentioned steps please revert.

Thanks and regards,
Priyanka S

Another thing to consider--you cannot connect with the ethernet cable and remove it and use the wireless. You must reboot the computer without the ethernet cable connected and allow the computer to recognize the wireless network at boot and connect to it. Wired and wireless are 2 separate and different connections

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I would like to know if you are facing the problem while downloading the file from the Dell’s support site.

Does the driver installation process get completed or not? Make sure you restart the computer once the driver gets installed.

Please reply.

Thanks and Regards

JonathanMAP,

The Finding System Information would be very helpful. If you have Vista or Windows 7, you should be able to save the notepad and then when you use rich formattinf, if you click on options, you can attach the file.

The file should be located at...

C:\

JonathanMAP,

I do not see the wireless adapter listed. Places to look to see in your Connection is enabled

If your system in under warranty, then contact Dell Tech Support.

If your system is not under warranty, I suspect the wireless adapter may have lost it's connection. If you're handy with a screwdriver, the instructions are HERE.

I would try reseating the wireless adapter.
