Dock D6000, D3100, D1000...which one is best? And can I use a USB switch?

Not sure if this is the right location. Please move it if not.

At my current client a Dell D1000 dock is used and I am really impressed by those docks! Now, at home I have a desktop computer running 2 24" screens and the normal other devices. Next to my desktop I have a Surface Pro tablet and a company laptop.

A while ago, I wanted to use a Microsoft Surface dock to switch completely to my Surface Pro, but now I have a better idea: why not use a Dell dock and either connect my Surface Pro, my desktop or my company laptop to it?

Now, I have some questions. I don't want to crawl under my desk every time I want to switch. Can I connect both my desktop and a separate USB cable that will lie on my desk for my Surface Pro to a USB switch and connect that USB switch to the input end of the Dell dock? I understand the USB splitter must contain a switch, so either the desktop computer or the separate cable delivers input to the Dell dock.

The other question I have is: what is the best dock? And what will the main differences be? I know the D6000 has USB C.
