Help with Inspiron 1100

I purchased an Inspiron 1100 notebook for my son in Febr. 2004.  I want to help him upgrade to a wireless connection.  What would be the best adapter to purchase for the 1100?  Also did the 1100 notebook come with an internal wireless card back then or did you have to add it to your order?  Any help here would be much appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

The Inspiron 1100 came with an internal MiniPCI wireless network adapter only if you ordered it with the machine.  The only options for an internal card now are the following Dell cards, any of which should work:

Alternatively, you could get just about any 802.11b/g PC Card wireless network adapter which would fit in the PC Card slot on the side of the computer.

Tom Roeder,

The Inspiron 1100 is not mini-PCI capable.  See this link from the Inspiron 1100, 5100, 5150 Service Manual.  Note that it indicates Inspiron 5100 and 5150 Only.

Your wireless options are an external PCMCIA card or a wireless USB adapter.
