How to switch on wireless mini card in inspiron 1545?

I have an Inspiron 1545. It will connect to the router but can't find the internet.  I keep getting a message telling me to switch on the wireless card. There is no physical switch, but I know there is a way it can be done through software but don't know what that is. Does anyone know?
