IP address conflict

Hi,

I am getting a message on my netbook telling me there is an IP address conflict with another system on the network......and im not able to connect to the network because of this. When i use a cable to connect to the router, it shows that i am connected but a little message comes up saying aquiring IP address, and so i still cant get on to the internet.  These messages started popping up since i gave my network key to a friend who is connecting to the internet in our house from his laptop.  How do i sort this?  Many thanks.  Julia.

Julia,

Try hitting the Windows key and the R keys at the same time. Type

ipconfig /release          (space between the g and /)

Restart your computer.

Try to connect. What happens?

Thanks for the suggestion,i actually rang Dell this afternoon and one of their technicians helped me out over the phone.  He said he had to configure the settings again to fix the problem and he did use the ipconfig/release that you suggested.  Many thanks.
