Internet connection win 7 XPS 8000

I am having the identical problem as shown here:
http://pocketpccentral.net/blog/2009/11/11/windows-7-unidentified-network-limited-access-no-internet-connection-problem-resolved/

The solution suggested did not work.  I am running win 7 64 bit on a DELL XPS8000 which uses a broadcom ethernet adapter, and a HomePortal 1000SW provided by my ISP, which is AT&T.  There are three computers and a printer connected to a D-Link DSS-5+ switch, which connects to the HomePortal all via wired ethernet.  If I disable the local area connection as shown in the link, I get a red "X" to the internet as expected.  If I double click the red "X" and run the troubleshooter/repair as an administrator,  the internet connection is restored and the offending "Unidentified Network, Public Network" is gone!  Once internet connection is established, it doesn't drop.  This occurs upon booting the computer.  Sometimes the internet connection will connect, but more often it will not.  If I follow the above procedure, it reconnects consistently.  The other two computers are running XP SP3 and have no such issues.  Any and all help will be appreciated.

Problem is resolved thanks to DELL for tech support.  I needed to configure the XPS 8000 with a static IP address, along with the subnet mask, DNS server, and default

gateway.  Connects every time now.  Thanks again.
