Loose internet connection on PC when VOIP is in use

Let me start from the beginning.  I had Cable Modem and a Linksys RT31P2 Broadband router for Vonage VOIP.  My Dimension 4300 was hard wired directly to the router and everything worked perfect.  Lightning fast and extremely reliable.  BTW, VOIP is awesome.

I recently purchased an Inspiron E1505 from the Dell Outlet which came with a N wireless card.  I thought I'd set up a home network, so I also bought a Linksys WRT300N router.

Here's my setup.
Cable Modem
WRT300N Linksys wireless router
Dell Dimension 4300 running Win XP SP2 (hard wired to wrt300n)
Dell Inspiron E1505 w/Vista Premium (wireless)
RT31P2 Linksys router for Vonage telephone (hard wired to wrt300n for VOIP)

Everything seems ok, but if someone is using the phone, then the Dim 4300 looses internet connection until they hang up the phone and then the connection comes right back.  We can use the wireless laptop and the phone at the same time, and we can use the laptop and the desktop at the same time without issue.  Whats up with that?

The desktop does have Norton Symantec, and the Windows XP firewall.  Is this a possible conflict?  Or do I have the whole thing set up wrong?  Please help.

Thanks a bunch.

Check the Vonage site for compatible routers.  The last I remember was that no N series were compatible.

Are you sure the Vonage box is a router and not a translation box?

Well, the Vonage router is hardwired to the Wireless router with an ethernet cable.  And it works most of the time, just not when the main desktop is in use.

It says Broadband Router right on the box.

Then get rid of your other router.

If I get rid of the other, I won't have wireless for my laptop.

There must be a way to have a home wireless network and also have VOIP

FullCry,

Connect the RT31P2 first in the series and only use it for VOIP and nothing else.

More specifically, connect an ethernet cable form the modem to the RT31P2 WAN port.  Then connect another ethernet cable from the LAN1 port on the RT31P2 to the WRT300N's WAN port.

When you do this, power all the equipment off first.  After making the cabling connections, power up the modem and let it synchronize with the ISP.  Then power up the RT31P2 and let it synchronize with the modem and Vonage.  Next power up the WRT300N and let it sunchronize.  Next, power up the D4300 and test to make sure you have connectivity to the internet.  Finally test the wireless E1505.

The above configuration works fine for me with my RT31P2 and Linksys WRT54G router.
