New Inspiron 5050 - Can See All Wireless Networks except for Wireless N

Hello,

I just purchased a new Inspiron 5050 and can connect to the internet via my wireless network via the G band. However, the Wireless N band does not show up under the detected networks listing. Can someone help figure out why the Wireless N does not appear under the listing? I have a work laptop that is also a dell and it picks up the Wireless N band with no problem.

Thank you.

Here you go. Thanks for the assistance. Hope you can find something I can't. All other computers in the house are able to detect both the Wireless N and G signals.

Does that mean I will not be able to see the Wireless N signal with the 1702 card? Is there any tweak I can do to get the Wirless N to be the preferred network over the wireless g? The other computers in the house pick up wireless N, so I was under the impression this computer would be able to do the same thing. Thanks for you input.

The OS does report other wireless N signals being picked up near my house, but the wireless n signal that is mine is not detected.

mungchucks,

It's my understanding that this adapter uses dual streams on 2.4GHz and that's how they can call this a wireless N adapter.

On the wireless G side, 2.4GHz

I usually recommend using these Recommended Wireless Router Settings I use channel 11. If you don't have wireless devices, like printers, cells, etc, I would try using WPA2-AES and see if you can connect, the speed should be faster. I would make an SSID like, mungchucks_G for the 2.4GHz connection and mungchucks_N for the 5.0 connections, so you can tell them apart.

mungchucks,

The Dell™ Wireless 1702 WLAN Half Mini-Card is a single band adapter and works on 2.4GHz ONLY. I see you have a valid IP address.

Did you install Windows 8 Professional 64-bit? If yes, did you install the drivers in the correct order? How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order

Go to Drivers & Downloads enter your service tag number, then select your operating system. Under Network, download and install the latest drivers.

Try these tweaks....

Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your wireless adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

Go to the power options, and changed the Wireless Adapter Setting, from Maximum Power Setting to Maximum Performance.
