No internet access available or detected Dell Studio 1555
I was given a Dell Studio 1555 and finally got around to reloading a fresh OS install from the factory disk. When I went to access the internet for updates, etc. the ethernet port was not working. Their is no wireless access available although I assume their is a wireless card in the laptop. The Device Manager has several issues listed:
Standard VGA Graphics Adapter (says This device cannot start. Code 10)
Base System Device (The drivers for this device are not installed. Code 28)
Base System Device (The drivers for this device are not installed. Code 28)
Base System Device (The drivers for this device are not installed. Code 28)
Ethernet Controller (The drivers for this device are not installed. Code 28)
Network Controller (The drivers for this device are not installed. Code 28)
SM Bus Controller (The drivers for this device are not installed. Code 28)
Normally I fix my own PC issues but require internet access on the computer to fix them LOL so I am messed up right now. I am in grad school and would love to have this working when school starts again after holiday break. Any help is appreciated. I will provide any other info I can if you need it. Thanks in advance.

pcnovice78,
Did you install the Dell System Software Utility and the Intel PM45 Express Chipset Family, GM45 Express Chipset Family, PM55 Express Chipset Family, Cantiga Chipset, HM57 Express Chipset Family, v.9.1.1.1015, A01 drivers first? The combination of these two drivers know what is attached to your system.
Then try the drivers again.

pcnovice78,
When you reinstalled the operating system, did you install the Dell System Software(if applicable) and the chipset drivers first? If not, the rest of the drivers will fail to install. How to Download and Install Drivers in the Correct Order
Start with the Dell System Software and the chipset drivers and follow the list.

I will try that. To answer your question, no, I did not install any drivers myself, the only CD I had was for the OS and it explicitly said that it did not contain drivers. I will let you know how it goes. Thanks

Most problems solved, not sure if I selected all the right options cause I still got 2 issues (but I can get on the internet via wireless). My screen looks like this:
pic didnt load, anyway still have Standard VGA driver that can't load, says its the most up to date driver but is having an issue
also, the ethernet controller didn't load and cannot be detected via the internet either (now that I have access)
I will try to post a good screen capture soon if that would help.
BTW there were many options for drivers on the Dell website, several times I downloaded 32 bit options that didn't work and had to search for the 64-bit driver that didn't automatically show up in the list. Seems strange given that we enter Service Tags that I would think would indicate things like 32 or 64 bit differences.

pcnovice78,
Can you run Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and REGISTERED OWNER and post the information back here.
To post a screenshot, save the file as an image, then click on the landscape button to insert the image.

pcnovice78,
Download and install in this order
Intel GM45 Video, Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD, Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD, v.8.15.10.1968, A05
Then
AMD ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3650, ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3450, ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3650, ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3450, ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3670, ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4570, ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4670, ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4330, v.8.631.0.0000, A09
This is your Ethernet connection
Broadcom BCM5784M LAN, v.11.21.0.0, A01
For your wireless adapter...
Try these tweaks....
Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your network adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.
Click on advanced. Look for Antenna Diversity. Change it from Auto to Aux
Go to the power options, and changed the Wireless Adapter Setting, from Maximum Power Setting to Maximum Performance.

I thought I had, when I reinstalled them, I got the same error, that I dont meet the minimum requirements to install for the graphics, the SVG on Device mANAGER is the one thing that said it had an Code 10 error and couldnt even load the driver which the system says is the most up to date. I also tried to click "check for solution" and it comes back with nothing, maybe something wrong with the hardware??? or would I not have a picture at all?

Also, I tried to download Dell Detect and each time I did, I went back t the website that said I needed it installed to do diagnostics, and I keep getting a message that Dell Detect "may not be installed" on my system and the website recommends downloading it again

pcnovice78,
Dell System Detect is a product if you run Dell PC Diagnostics
To remove Dell System Detect, go to control panel, programs and features, Dell System Detect, uninstall.
Restart your computer.
If you want to run Dell Diagnostics, please use Internet Explorer and you'll get prompted with the certificates.
To download drivers, I usually download the drivers, in my browser on driver at a time.

the first of the last 2 drivers you selected gave me an issue like I told you. today I had the brilliant idea to simply go ahead and try the second one and the Device Manger issue for the SVG display went away after the AMD graphics driver installed. I still can't get Dell Detect to do anything, but that wasn't part of my original issue so I just marked this as answered cause you took care of all my initial issues. Thanks so much, really appreciated!

Kris,
Glad you get everything working! :emotion-21: Thanks for posting back.
Dell System Detect is not needed and can be removed from the control panel, programs and features. It is only needed if you run any Dell Diagnostics and should install, using Internet Explorer on Dell's website.
Take care,
Rick
