Not connecting to Buffalo WHR G-125 with Latitude E5420/Intel Centrino Advanced N 6205

Hello All

I just purchased a used Latitude E5420. It looked like the seller did a fresh reinstall of Windows just before selling it to me. The non-internet applications are working fine, but it's not connecting to my home wireless router. I have a  Buffalo WHR G-125. I tried pretty much every type of security type, but nothing worked, so I eventually disabled security and set up MAC filtering, after which I put in the MAC address for the laptop. That still didn't solve the problem.

It does connect to my neighbor's unsecured linksys network. Both the neighbor's network and mine are 802.11g

I went to Intel's website and installed the latest drivers for the network card, but that didn't help. I'm using the latest firmware on the router already.

Here are the specs for the laptop

Win 7 Professional 64-bit

Intel Core i5 2520M @ 2.50 Ghz

16 GB RAM

Thanks

Chris

Chris,

You can try, Restoring Your Computer´s Software to the Factory Settings If that doesn't work,

Can you run Finding System Information REMOVE YOUR PRODUCT ID and REGISTERED OWNER and post the information back here.

Regarding 'restoring my computer's software" I'd rather not to do that, because it would erase Microsoft Office from the computer. Here is my system information:

Chrismartin76,

Since we don't know what the previous owner did, let's start with basics.

Hopefully you did a Dell - Ownership Transfers

First run Belarc Advisor and get your product keys for the programs you need.

Download and install these drivers in the exact order listed below...

Dell System Software, v.7.0.3, A03

Dell Feature Enhancement Pack 2.2.1

Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility, v.9.2.0.1030, A04

NEC USB 3.0, v.2.0.30.0, A01

Some of these may not install, but try

Intel Unified AMT 7 Management Interface Driver, v.7.1.20.1119, A02

Intel Management Engine 7.1 Components Installer

ST Microelectronics Free Fall Sensor

Then download and install...

I don't see the drivers for the Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6205 so try the drivers for the Intel Intel (R) WiMAX Link 6250, v.6.01.000, A00 or you may have to download them from Intel® Driver Update Utility website, and save the drivers toy uor desktop.

Places to look to see if your Connection is enabled

Rick

Chrismartin76,

Router looks like it's producing an ip address for the wired connection, no prblem. Just trying to help with the wireless connection.

Thanks. I just realized that I'm using a router that I purchased in 2007. I didn't realize it was that long ago that I had purchased it, and I suppose I may just need a new router. I appreciate the link to the Dell Ownership Transfer. I'll do that immediately and then install the items above in the order you cited.

I did all of the above with the exception of installing

Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility, v.9.2.0.1030, A04

because WIndows said I had a newer version already installed. I still can't connect to my wireless network. I can see it listed as an available network with a strong signal, but when I try to connect, it runs for a while and then I get a message about Windows being unable to connect. I'm using my neighbor's wi-fi for now.

Also, this afternoon I was in an area with a strong free wi-fi signal but my laptop didn't even "see" that signal. It did pick up about 30 other wi-fi networks in that area, so I couldn't understand why it was doing this.

Thanks

Chris
