PCI Simple Communications Controller

hi -

I'm searching for a driver for the PCI Simple Communications Controller for an Dell Optiplex GX110
that is running Windows XP Home edition.

I have installed a Dynex data/fax/voice modem that supports Windows XP, but the system does not recognize it because of the drivers needed for the PCI controller.

Thanks for the info.

You have to install CHIPSET drivers First.

Thank you for your response to my message.

Where can I find the download to the chipset?

I checked the Dell Device Download for the OptiPlex GX110 but do not see any driver for a chipset.

I am having the same issue with the PCI Simple Controller. And before you are your usual rude and arrogant self, I would note that by going to http://support.dell.com and putting in the service tag (or model number, per the instructions), you will find drivers for just about everything, but the chipset.

That aside though, I ran the Intel utility you provided the link for and it did not install the .inf files, the utility indicated that I didn't need them. The actual message is "The current operating system supports the Intel Chipset devices on your system. No INF update is needed". But I still have the problem with the modem (original Conexant modem, by the way) not being recognized because of the PCI Simple Communications Controller (a bang in Device Manager). Additionally, on the driver download page there is no 'copperXP' driver download, which is what is indicated for a machine purchased on the North American continent. What's up with that. You have the 'silverXP' driver for those in Asia et. el., but not the one required for people who purchased domestically.

Incidentally, I am a technical support engineer (2nd level) myself, so this ain't my first rodeo.

Well, Mr. Wizard, it didn't work. Same message as before, 'Your Operating System supports the chipset. The INF files will not be installed.... blah, blah, blah. Now what?

Although I admit I have been somewhat abrasive, that has been in response to the abrasive comments I have seen from you. So, let's get past all that, because I have an issue here that your canned responses are not addressing.

I really do need, and would appreciate, some help here. I replaced the HD with a 40GB Maxtor and clean installed Windows and the applications. Downloaded and installed drivers for all other devices successfully, including the BIOS flash. I'm running WinXP SP2 w/all current updates and patches. Have installed Office Pro 2003, Visual Studio .NET, MS Antispyware, AntiVir anti-virus, LavaSoft Ad-Aware w/the plug-ins and that's about it. I will be anxiously awaiting your reply.

Yours truly,

Chris Norton
