Trying to get my Inspiron 5100 to work with Linksys WRT54G router

My 5100 has a built-in wireless card, which it refers to as a 1394 Net Adapter, and I have a set-up WRT54G router.  My computer doesn't see it, however, and all of the helps and tutorials I have visited tell me to open Network Connections and alter the properties of the Wireless Network Connection icon, but I have no such icon in Network Connections.

Am I missing something that I need to turn on?

1394 network adapter is the firewire port.  If you are positive you bought a wireless card, reseat the mini-pci card into the notebook - no AC or battery.

Thanks John.

I opened up the mini-PCI slot to reseat it... to find an empty PCI slot.

So now I get to figure out whether I messed up when ordering or Dell messed up in shipping.  Either way, at least I now know why is wasn't working.
