Wireless Local Area Card Issue

Hello,

I purchased a refurbished Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720 from the Dell Outlet store in mid-2012. About a week ago, I noticed that my wireless internet connection started to cut out at seemingly random times. Usually all it would take to resolve this would be disconnecting and then reconnecting to my wireless network, but lately attempting to do that that has been freezing that process altogether, forcing me to restart my laptop just to reconnect to my wireless network.

I think the reason behind this issue might be that I'm using the wrong driver. About 6 months ago, the SSD that my laptop came with started corrupting, so I was forced to buy a new one and reinstall Windows 7. Upon doing this, all of my drivers were missing, so I had to make my best effort in finding out which one was needed for wireless internet. At first, I was using this driver for a few months, but yesterday I got so fed up with losing my wireless connection that I went to Intel's website to get the most up-to-date version. Now that I've confirmed updating this particular driver didn't help at all, I'm at a loss and turning to the Dell community for help.

Can someone please advise what I should do to prevent my wireless connection from cutting out at seemingly random times? If any additional information may help, please let me know. Thank you for taking your time to read my query, and happy holidays!

Joel,

Everything looks decent.

Try these tweaks....

Start, control panel, device manager. Click on Network and then right click on your network adapter, left click properties, power management. Uncheck the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power.

 

Go to the power options, and changed the Wireless Adapter Setting, from Maximum Power Setting to Maximum Performance.

You probably have these settings but you can try reading...

Intel ~ Recommended settings for 802.11n connectivity

Next step would be the type of security you're using in your wireless router and the channel. If you're not sure, you can run Network Interface and post that information back here.

What virus program and firewall are you using?

Hi Rick,

The only things I hadn't tried in your last response were in the article at the end of your post. So far, changing the default settings of my router seems to have fixed my connectivity issues altogether. I guess the issue was after all how my router (Comcast) was broadcasting its signal, rather than my initial theory that the wireless card was going on the fritz. Thanks for all your help!
