Re: can't connect to the internet update!

Steve,
I opened the Device Manager, expanded Network Adapters....What is listed is 1394 Net Adapter and Intel(R) Pro/100 VE Network Connection.
Nothing that says Broadcom Gigabit adapter  Is it the Intel (R) Pro/100 VE Network Connection I uninstall? I don't want to take out the wrong thing?

Re: can't connect to the internet update!

Ok, you have a different network adapter.  Download the drivers for that network adapter from:

Then copy the downloaded file to the 4550, and go into Device Manager and uninstall the Intel Pro device.   Reboot, cancel the "New Hardware Wizard", then run the new file you downloaded.

Re: can't connect to the internet update!

Well, this is the strangest thing!!!!!!
I pulled up  search from the (START>SEARCH) on the Computer that wouldn't open up any web pages.
I went into favorites and for the heck of it, I clicked on MSN...and would you believe MSN web page came up!!! I almost fell on the chair!!! Using this page I can go anywhere on the Internet????
I noticed in the address bar it's http://www.msn.com
When I try to open up the browser using Internet Explorer on the START menu, the address bar is:
http://www.comcast.net-Cannot find server-Microsoft Internet Explorer provided by  Comcast.

I can't believe that all this time trying to find out what the problem was for the past 5 days, talking on the phone with Comcast 3 times and having you in here trying to figure out what the problem was for the past 4 days...and it turns out to be something to do with COMCAST!!!!!
  I can't believe it!!!

Now I have to figure out not to have Comcast open up Internet Explorer!!

That should be easy after all I  have been working on these past few days!!Smiley Very Happy

I want to Thank You for bearing with me with this problem!
Especially you bheisey

Re: can't connect to the internet update!

Comcast. Hmmmm. Shame on them.

I had daily problems with staying connected to the net with Comcast.
Turns out my coax wiring is too sensitive when you need splitters, signal boosters, etc. for multiple connections. Signal degrades too easily.
I just dumped Comcast on Memorial Day weekend; now using Verizon FiOS.
Darn thing is 3 times faster than Comcast and I have not lost a connect since I switched.
It's amazing.

Maddie,
I'm very happy to hear all is finally well for you. Bless you for hanging in there and not tossing it out the window. Ha, ha.

It must be the Irish in me! I don't give up easy!

I called Comcast. They had me do some things to see if it was Comcast...They said it wasn't coming from them. (Sure)

The girl on the Phone said, she use to work for MSN, so she had me check some things out on my PC. Had me go to msconfig and start up in diagnostic mode. She said, something was corrupt with Internet Explorer and I should do a REPAIR & INSTALL! Oh No!!!

I rebooted one more time and low and behold everything worked!! I could open up all of my shortcuts to the Internet!

Hmmmmm! I just sat there looking at my PC...scratching my head...and thinking "What The Heck! (Heck was the word but you can't say the other word in here! LOL)

I will never know what fixed the problem! Which makes me mad! But it's fixed and that's what counts.
I just wanted to let you know the latest! You have worked so hard with me try to help!

Thanks and have a Good Day!
Maddie

Re: can't connect to the internet

maddie1946,

It sounds to me like the link to your home page is wrong. To test this out you should go to Tools then to Internet Options and on the page that opens you will have your home page listed. You should choose another one, one that you like your browser to go to when you open it. This should solve the problem with the Comcast link.

Re: can't connect to the internet

Gina
That makes sense about the home page being wrong.
What I can not fathom is the IP address, Default Gateway, and DHCP of 10.10.10.1
I have not seen that before.
That along threw me off track as to the issue.
