connects fine, but drops off & Intel PROset won't reconnect unless I restart windows
I am using a laptop in my living room which connects fine to my home router located in the bedroom,a distance of 10 m (32 feet) from each other. When the connection between the 2 devices is lost, the only way to get it back is to start Windows because Intel Proset wireless won't reconnect to my home router. Why am I not able to just reconnect with restarting Windows?I am using a 2007 Dell 520 Latitude (used), windows XP Pro version 5.1, Intel PROset wireless

I tried the suggested tweak by Rick and unchecked the box, allow computer to turn off this device to save power. Problem is persisting.

Followed the link for Recommended Wireless Router Settings and one of the suggestions was that I "turn off the firewall in the wireless router". Wouldn't that leave me open to breaches?

jon_dell,
Your computer should have a firewall. You use the computers firewall when at a WiFi Hotspot

jon_dell,
Keep the computers firewall turned on, turn off the firewall in the router.

jon_dell,
Computers with XP or earlier operating systems do not have their own firewall.
Computers with Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 have a firewall on the computer.
Some virus programs have a firewall.

I know this sounds stupid but the easy fix is get a hard wire and you wil not loose the connection and its much faster too....

jon_dell,
If you turn off the routers firewall, the firewall in Windows should work.
