dell wireless 1395 card in an Inspiron 1420
Hi,
I spent some time on the chat tonight with Dell. I was told by two different techs that the dell wireless 1395 card installed from the factory in my Dell Inspiron 1420 should see both the 2.4 and 5 GHz networks on my Netgear WNDR3700. When I open Dell Quickset, go into the Wi Fi catcher network locator, the 802.11 a 5 GHz as well as the 802.11 a/b/g 2.4 and 5 GHz radio buttons are grayed out. It's not seeing the 802.11a 5GHz at all. Both techs told me I needed to reinstall the card's drivers, which I did, from the link one of them sent me, and it did not change anything. I did search the forum here and couldn't really see that the question was answered. Do I need another wireless card to take advantage of the 5 GHz??
Thank you for your reply!

gocubs1,
It's a Dell Wireless 1395 adapter. Specifications CLICK HERE. It's a b/g adapter, which means 2.4GHz ONLY.

Thank you. That is what I thought. The reason I called Dell last night was to see if I could purchase a new card that would be dual band. Both people I called told me the card I had (the 1395) was dual band. I told them both I did not believe it was as the 5 GHz band was completely grayed out when I went into quickset to look and that my laptop couldn't see it, however other computer devices, such as my phone and TV, could see it.
Do you know a dual band card that I could purchase to replace the 1395 I have?
I appreciate your quick answer.

gocubs1,
Here is a list of network drivers for your system. The 1490 looks promising. Some people just use a USB wireless adapter, if they don't mind attaching it and being careful
Wireless 1395 WLAN MiniCard
Wireless 1505 Draft 802.11n WLAN Mini-Card
