Need help setting up VLAN on Dell 5324 Power Connect.
Setup: Netgear R7000 as router, dhcp server etc. Dell Power connect as switch. 10 PC Environment need to isolate 1 pc completely by using VLAN.
Question: I want to setup a VLAN on my network to isolate one computer. I don't want this computer to be able to login to the switch, router or any other pc but I do want it to have full access to the internet. I have read a few articles and watched videos and I can not configure the Power Connect correctly to put it on a VLAN that will allow access to the internet. Everytime I do "setup vlan" from what I thought I should be doing it does not gain a IP (could be because router is on 192.168.1.1 not 192.168.2.1). I tried using static ip and that does allow me access to the VLAN and even the switch if I keep the 192.168.2.2 ip active on it. But the client is still unable to connect to the internet. Is there a way to make the internet work on both VLAN 1 (192.168.1.*) and VLAN 2 (192.168.2.*) while still separating the two VLAN's and only assign DHCP ip's using the switch on VLAN2?

Hi,
This switch does not have a way for DHCP to cross VLANs. You could try creating a management ACL that denys the port access to the other ports so it can’t access them. Page 189. http://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_ser_stor_net/esuprt_powerconnect/powerconnect-5324_reference%20guide_en-us.pdf These older switches don’t have the same options as newer ones for creating the configuration that you are looking for.

I am willing to assign it a static IP as long as it's still able to reach the internet.

Tried the vlan on the router and apparently it is for external network only. It resulted in no internet for all vlans. I have seen and read others using the 5324 with vlans and I can get it working partially. Im able to ping the modem that is after the router but I can not reach say google or anything like that. Shouldn't the 5324 be fully capable of vlans regardless of router support?

The 5324 does not have routing functionality. So if you have separate VLANs they need to pass through a VLAN aware Level 3 device in order to communicate with different VLANs/subnets.
