Downloading Dell drivers
Hi,
I have been trying to d/l a driver for my dvd burner, but have been unable to for 2 weeks now.
I select my desktop model, select my dvd driver, press the "download now" button, it asks
me if I want to use the Dell d/l driver manager or my internet browser, (I have tried both btw),
it asks where to save the file, (desktop), it puts an icon on the desktop, then the Dell d/l driver manager
just sits there not doing anything, then times out.
Is Dell having website technical difficulties? ... or is the problem me? If me, what is causing it?
Thanks

For the downloading problem, try uninstalling the Dell download manager from Add/Remove, then clear your browser cache (cookies and temporary files). Try again and select Browser option instead of the download manager. More FAQs here:

However, what you're trying to download is firmware, not a driver. CD/DVD drivers are included in Windows itself; firmware corrects issues internal to the drive itself (usually listed in Fixes and Enhancements on the download page). With CD/DVD issues software or registry problems are far more common than firmware problems,. though sometimes could be a hardware failure a download can't fix. Might want to post your exact problem in the Drives section here for advice (and be sure to check out the CD/DVD FAQ there too):

Thank you for the reply. Your advice worked. I was able to d/l the driver ... er, firmware. My dvd burner worked well
before, but i-tunes didn't recognize it, so ... I doubt this will solve the problem, but it's a start.
Thank you again.
