First time use of Laptop: When to update to Windows 10?

Just received the Inspiron 15 5000 Series (Intel(R)) - 5558 I ordered. It comes with Windows 8.1 pre-installed, I understand.
Preparing for first time use and installing stuff I wondered if I should upgrade to Win 10 straight away or after first having configured Windows 8.1 ?

Thanks, Ton [Admin note, name removed per TOU Policy]

Hi Tkoenraad,

You will need to set up the 8.1 before you do any thing else. Personally I would wait a few months for Microsoft and all computer manufacturers to work the bugs out. Any new operating system takes some time to get straightened out. Here is some information to read before you do go to Windows 10.

MAKE SURE YOU MAKE A RECOVERY DISK OF THE OPERATING SYSTEM, AFTER SETTING UP WINDOWS 8.1.

Computers tested for upgrade to windows 10. Be sure and click the link on this page to see if your pc is in it, and it appears the 5558 is supported.

There are several links on the Software and Operating system forum for you to read.
