Inspiron 531 BIOS update

Hi, I'm new here so I'm not sure where to post this.

That said, here goes.

I have an Inspiron 531 with an Athlon 64 x2 5000+ and the 1.0.7 bios (It came from the factory that way). I now have an Athlon 64 x2 6000+ that I want to install to raise the speed from 2.6 to 3.0 ghz. The BIOS updates do not seem to work since all I get is a "winflash.sys" on the desktop when I try to run it.

What I would like to ask is this:

Can the Athlon 64 x2 6000+ run under the 1.0.7 bios? And if not, how can I upgrade the bios (To 1.0.11, 12 or 13) so it will run?

ANY help would be most appreciated!

Thanks

Are you following the Dell installation instructions, exactly, as listed for the download?  Usually, there are no problems if the instructions are followed.  And be very careful with the BIOS update as a failed/corrupted BIOS update and your ONLY option is to replace the motherboard with a new Dell exact replacement.
