On the Home t ab, open the Paragraph dialog box using the small arrow in the lower right-hand corner. In the dialog box, under "Spacing" select "Single" - then click on "Default" to save it as single spacing.

Thank you - however this does not work; not for the page I am on and surely not for any pages thereafter. I have followed every instruction - nothing works, doesn't work. Microsoft refers me to Dell, Dell refers me to Microsoft. The standard 'catch 22' - OEM and Microsoft.

Okay well try this then.
Select all your text and on the home tab in word as pictured. At styles you see it has Normal selected, change this to no spacing.
