R410 - Update onboard SATA controller firmware? New WD 10TB SATA HD reported by controller as 18TB
I have a circa 2010 R410 that has no Perc, just onboard SATA. I want to replace the onboard 500GB SATA drive with a new WD 10TB drive. When I boot the server with the 10TB drive installed, the onboard SATA controller reports 18TB. I haven't gone any further with OS install because the incorrect size report makes me a bit nervous.
I've updated the server BIOS but I can't find any packages to update the onboard SATA controller.
Any ideas? Many thanks...

Hello.
I suppose the onboard SATA controller reports 1.8TB and not 18TB. Once connected to the S100 or S300 controller, the maximum hard disk capacity is 2TB. In the BIOS, try change SATA setting to AHCI or SATA mode.

The PERC H700 supports drives of capacity greater than 2TB but no maximum drive capacity is defined. It is some thing that you can try. Ensure that the BIOS, iDRAC and controller firmware is up to date and that the drive is enterprise class drive and certified by Dell; not NAS or desktop drive.

I found some Perc 700 kits with cabling at a local uses systems supplier. Provided the card and cabling work properly, would that see the 10TB properly?

I have tried setting SATA, AHCI even RAID, makes sense it's probably 1.8T not 18T
Would a PERC700 work if I update it's firmware?
