7020SFF Upgrade question.

Hello, my specs of my 7020SFF are:

Zotac GT1030 GDRR5 2GB

Timetec Hynix 2x8gb 1333Mhz at 1.35V

i3-4150 3.6GHz

I was wondering if upgrade for an i7-4970 for 130usd and for an XFX Speedster SWFT105 Radeon RX 6400 for 140usd is viable is I sell the CPU and the GPU and paying a little more to get better perfomance.

Is possible to run the RX6400? Is wortly for the price? Is any problem with PSU?

The RX6400 recommends a 350W PSU while you have a 255W PSU. This YouTube video may be helpful as it lists a number of compatible GPU cards. As for the CPU, the i7-4790 ( I believe you incorrectly posted it as 4970) is compatible as listed here at Hardware-Corner.

So I will need an XE2 PSU and just run the 6400 with an 10fps less than the gen 4 right? If I only upgrade the CPU it will be a good combination? I found the PSU around 90 usd in Az so I don really whink is wortless to do it, for CPU, PSU and GPu will be around 360$, so literally i can sell my hole PC and get a better option right?

I would not spend that much to upgrade SFF within the small case.  Not worth it.

If you want to stay on intel 4th gen cpu platform, move the sff motherboard to a standard minitower case (can be any case) and there you can install any psu or video card you like.  in the end it saves you by investing in a case (20-30 can get you a very good case, or someone already has an old case they can use).  you also need a 24 to 8 pin adapter another small investment that saves you big on other components.  totally not worth it to spend a lot on RX6400 when you can get an older full height video card to work in mini tower case.

for gaming you can save on i7 by getting an i5.  not much difference btn i5-4570 and i7-4770 when paired with a fast gpu.  spend the most on the fastest video card you can afford, and consider a future proof gpu if you ever plan to move to faster cpu in the future.

I wouldn't advise to upgrade a 7020 SFF.  The amount spent on the processor alone could get you an i7-6700 in a newer Optiplex 7040

7040 MT has 240w PSU and SFF version has 180w PSU.

Just one example of a G5 Tower on eBay.

While it is possible to use a 4790 and an RX6400 in the 7020 SFF (You would need the stronger PSU out of an XE2 (VX372)), even I would advise against doing so. I have a 9020SFF with a very similar config (i7-4790, 32GB RAM, Sapphire Radeon RX6400) and while it does work for my games, it tends to get warm inside (averages about 80-84°C), so I don't game with it often. Also, the XFX card tends to run even hotter (85 to 90) from what I read, which is not good for the other components. Heat stress can cause premature failure.

Edit: Also, having SFFs as gamers is more of a novelty than performance nowadays. It's also expensive. For the amount I spent on my 9020SFF, I probably could have built a regular midtower gamer PC.
