760, Fix Windows 10 Pro x64 ~ PCI Simple Communications Controller errors

I installed Windows 10 Pro, 64 Bit OS (with a 250GB SSD).  Thankfully I had only 2 errors showing in "Device Manager"!

Even with the 2 errors, everything still appears to work OK!  After 10+ hours of operation the CPU is just 96 °F.  I also installed a 2 port HDMI card before the fix (listed below) and it too was working fine!  Here is the first error:

PCI Simple Communications Controller:

VEN_8086&DEV_2E14&SUBSYS_027F1028&REV_03
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2E14&SUBSYS_027F1028

(Also reported as):

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2E14&SUBSYS_027F1028&REV_03
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2E14&SUBSYS_027F1028
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2E14&CC_078000
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2E14&REV_03
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2E14 <
PCI\VEN_8086&CC_078000
PCI\VEN_8086&CC_0780
PCI\VEN_8086
PCI\CC_078000
PCI\CC_0780)

Odd but the only place I found a 'Fix" for this is on a HP Site!

PCI Simple Communications Controller Driver X64 Drivers

After installing the Drivers that error is gone!  I'm still hunting for a Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.00GHz Driver or fix!

Hope this helps you!

Anthony

The OptiPlex 760 is not supported for Win 10.  Win 7 is the last OS supported.

This  not to say it won't work in Win 10, but there may be (will be) hardware devices that are not supported.  The version of Windows 10 is also an issue with older hardware.  As newer versions of Win 10 are released they support less and less older hardware.

I had the PCI Simple Communications Controller error on an ASRock motherboard that was supported for Win 10. It never caused a problem.

You do not go to HP for DELL INTEL AMT HECI SOL drivers.

Disregard the poster as it appears to be XSS scripted Malware Links.

Windows 10 is not supported HOWEVER it works just fine.

760 what, there are at least 4 cases and 4 mother boards here? what PC is it fully stated?

Intel® Q43 Express Chipset w/ICH10D (this is chip set)

as others told you dell has no w10 on this old PC , no support but read on for exeptions, see last line.

yes Pnp IS died on this chip.

so you also see MS plug and play fail, for the same reasons. poof is here (hard)

http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=PCI%5CVEN_8086%26DEV_2e14

that VEN =8086 means INTEL, cute name yet ,from back in 1981 first IBM PCs 8086/8088 days, (cool name)

dev = actual chip 2E14

that means the intel driver is missing for  THAT  intel chip so get it at intel next>? that be 1 choice.

im not sure  at ALL what is your  question?

know that w10 as it evolves  1809 now, will drop chips that the makers of said chip 100% flat refuse to support W10 is it exists NOW. (or every 6th month w10 update)

the other choices is what? one and only 1 choices and (intel drops support and did on some chips of theirs)
that is to install the driver in compatibility mode.

setup.exe (right click it and pick w7 com pate mode)

learn now some EXE are coded to not allow running on w10 period

so we extract the EXE used, 7zip( free) and see what is INSIDE,

if you see msi, run that in compat mode, w7 t0 10

or if only inf files try them 1 at a time.

forced.

now INTEL actual

Eaglelake HECI Controller

so you learned that Intel does not support there old 2e15 chip now but somehow, HP has it.

well that is what HP can do, that is there trick, and HP does not send drivers to Dell ever.

this is what they support and w7 and w10-32 bit will end soon.

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/1145/Intel-Chipset-Software-Installation-Utility

Intel 4 series is old. circa 2008 (11 years old) for the old CORE2 processor.

but core 2, is not supported on 10. what HP did here , IDK but is a super interesting topic that.

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000006105/processors.html

your pc has these 1 of

Q9000 series Intel® Core™2 Quad 12M/6M, 1333 FSB

Q8000 series Intel® Core™2 Quad 4M, 1333 FSB

E8000 series Intel® Core™2 Duo 6M, 1333 FSB

E7000 series Intel® Core™2 Duo 3M, 1066 FSB

E6000 series Intel® Pentium® Dual Core 2M, 1066 FSB

E5000 series Intel® Pentium® Dual Core 2M, 800 FSB

E1000 series Intel® Celeron® Dual Core 512K, 800 FSB

400 series Intel® Celeron® 512K, 800 FSB

why not just buy newer PC, used, with a real CORE(tm) processor and retire  this old CORE2.

by fav dells are.

3020,7010,7020,9010, and 9020. (can be had for  whopping $50 used, why wait? dump core2.)

I like only those that the PSU can be upgraded easy. (fit + adaptors)

my 3020 loads w10-64b fresh with not one error, even runs fast GPU cards.

In the same Vain, Intel Q43 HD graphics ended LONG LONG ago

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/81516

ended in 2012 , 7 years ago. intel pulled the plug RIP, slow old HD.

one poster here posted the dell w8 drivers (nice job there, seeing how Intel has zero)

so load that in compatibility mode. W10 pick w8 as compat. and load that.

but the best post here is on w10 future. (will it still so w8 compat loads in the future IDK)

Hello...

I'm making it a point to reply to you on a DELL OPTIPLEX 760 using 64 Bit Microsoft Windows 10.  This Dell is now operating totally error free ~ except for my typos.

I didn't expect Windows 10 to be a 'Plug and Play' install from the start.  The only two errors in 'Device Manager' (after install) didn't bother me much ~ because ~ this 760 was still operational, not crashing and no blue screens of death either ~ from the first time Windows 10 booted up to now.

DELL does not make CPU, chips OR ANY other items like drives, cards and memory used in Dell computers.  DELL depends on vendors and manufactures to supply virtually ALL of the items that MAKE a "Dell".

Those 'suppliers' also create upgrades and many software/firmware/flash and 'fixes' for their items ~ from Audio to WiFi.  AND, it's important to note that DELL is not the only buyer.

The IMPORTANT part to me is:  IF  "HP" (or any other manufacture) uses that same Intel Q43  (or CPU card/add/on etc) and  HP (or another company) HAS a WORKING/BETTER DRIVER for that same ITEM ~ why wouldn't  I TRY it to fix problems or upgrade?  Especially when that driver FIXES hardware errors and reports?

I mean, if I was in Death Valley running out of gas and the ONLY gas station around was ARCO, but "I" only buy Chevron Gas... would I buy and 'install' that ARCO gas?  New and fresh drivers often fix a array of other problems too and sometimes make items work better by adding improved features.  Computer BIOS upgrades is a good example...

Sure, at some point Microsoft (and DELL) must move on to new models and 'support' for older items end and I fully understand that.  Truth is the less they 'support' now (with fresh drivers in example) the more new stuff they sell.

It's also important to note that other computer companies don't market scores of new models every year ~ like Dell.  I suspect these 'others' may demand more "support years" from board vendors (CPU, video etc) and this may be why newer/better drivers are often found for the same items elsewhere?

You say why not buy something newer?  For me ~ my OPTIPLEX 760 was FUN and a challenge right out of the box!  Same with my 'other' Optiplex Systems and two more USFF are set to arrive Tuesday... The total cost: $54 including shipping for both... What FUN and ~ what's not to like?  Just add a SSD and be amazed!

You also recommend something with a faster/newer/better "CPU", but hey... if I did, things would be just like now... 99.99% of the time my "760" is just waiting for new instructions ~ from me...  Why buy a Ferrari to be stuck in 8 mph traffic?  (For grins I just checked my CPU temp:  96 degrees... gee, it's running colder than me).
