is this  you or others posting the same problem over and over for months?   I really don/t care just curious.

and was answered vast times, and that is my point.  (search school  posts) very few of those but all I saw was the same post repeated same.

'first off the RTC coin cells are bad. ( do you know what week RTC coin can do ,?  answer CHAOS)

why not do that first. (it is  standard service as is getting all that lint out of heatsinks or fans, and ending overheating, all shops know this and do that FIRST)

nor what the screens show, not posted, post photos. and win/win ! for sure.

9020 is not magically special. how many do you have 9020? 2 ,20 ,200,  (it's  school IDK)

why  not focus on  one PC< find the true cause, then when 100% cured do the 2nd then the 3rd and see if it really is a trend, based FACTs (true causes! and logged and tracked,)

what does  not booting mean?. means zero to me. (every one has wrong meanings for this)

UNTIL told in the right context.

Not booting thing means, and do listen carefully

PC turns on, and fans all blow,  and the power lamp turns white not amber nor blinks.

if not that is a power failure not a boot error. (booting means loading the OS, ok as in BOOT STRAPPING)

The DVD drive eject button works (button near tray)?

then you see the DELL LOGO  POST A SPLASH and see the POST SCAN BAR moving left to right that is

POST scans, and must reach the end if not that is POST FAILURE., and is not  boot error  but  POST failure.

I you see POSTS fail GO TO BIOS PAGE F2, and click logs and read the logged failure now.

then last is the actual Boot failing,  LAST. (these rules on intel.com web site (the 3 phases)

The end of the POST the last instruction step in the code, of BIOS IS TO BOOT one of 5 devices,

SDD, HDD

WHat OS do you run? XP? IDK

so if the coin cell gets weak BIOS GOES Nuts and will not boot anything or WRONG. or random. oops.

worse is booting to PXE, the default is this,  PXE boot server remote. must be turned off.now.

I'm sure the RAM CO-INCIDENCE is a FALSE direction.  if all do this. , it is false, surely not all  have bad ram nor mixing ram SKU (P/n) but no facts on ram stated you (mix, make and .p./n)

Try to know we cant see your screens failing, and for sure MATTERS SUPER MUCH. post  photos and win.

Post more facts on one PC fails, just one, we can do them 1 at a time, and not all at once, but gee if  all have weak batteries,.  then BINGO ,  attack the pink bunny .

  • RTC coins bad. I'm sorry the pink bunny tells your COINS don;t last 13 years, 7max is SPEC !
  • HDD bad is next. run full ePSA hdd tests yet, and for that matter all ePSA tests yet, why not?
  • PSU bad is next old dried out cap's inside,  nasty pure CHAOS) (chopper noise  SMPS super super bad that,  need proof have it?, and nice high end scope views here, in lab, and ALL THAT)
  • Dirt not cleaned out every year , bad news. (all lint from all heat sinks, all fans, and PSU too)!!!.
  • and endless problems with windows, I do not cover, or help (I reload it. and win, like changing socks)

a wise school admin,  hw dept. would stock up these,  9 whole cents. I buy them in 25 or more.

10 years is stretch ,  top 2 makers here 5-7y,  PC on shell spared out, is 3 years. (sucks more power off)

when PC on the coin loafs.(power steering diode magic)

if you stock PCs, spare, consider this too.

9020's are from 2013.

Did the power button blink any error codes?

Dell Diagnostic Indicators

I also second what savvy2 said about replacing the size 2032 CMOS batteries  Could easily be a common denominator in 6 yr. old machines.  A low battery can cause all sorts of bizarre problems.  They last around 5 yrs.

Optiplex 9020 Owner's Manual

Owner's Manual is for the MT (mini tower).  I didn't see a size listed.

The POST would verify it was a RAM issue. Almost all of the devices I have of this model would have the same boot issue every so often. I have found simply reseating the RAM works. Currently it is not an issues since this model is discontinued.
