Do Optiplex 3060 have an NVMe pci-e3 x4 port?
Hi everyone,
I would like to ask you whether the "M.2 port", showed as item n° "15" on this image: https://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/optiplex-3060-desktop_service-manual_en-us.pdf#page=14 (which I suppose to be the optiplex 3060 motherboard), is an M.2 NVMe pcie3 x4 port/interface or not.
If this is the case, can I use it to plug an M.2 NVMe pci-e3 x4 SSD like this: https://www.amazon.it/dp/B07CGGP7SV/ref=cm_sw_r_wa_apa_Xsd.BbA8VS42D?th=1, and use it to store the OS to load at booting, or there's any trouble regarding the BIOS which makes this impossible/harder?

Yes and yes.
See page 12 of Dell OptiPlex 3060 Tower specs here. Seems the M.2 SSD slot supports either a PCIe 3 x4 NVME or SATA (AHCI / C20 SED) SSD.
EDIT: Based on feedback below and here, it seems M.2 NVMe SSDs in the OptiPlex 3060 don't run at quoted speed on page 12 of Dell's spec:
"PCIe 3 x4 NVME, Up to 32 Gbps"
But, are only running half that speed using PCIe 2 x4 instead.

Yes...but only on the manual.....in the real world work only at 2x4!
I install a Samsung Evo 970 500Gb on 3060MFF I5 6core and Samsung Magician report max inetrface supported pci-e 2x4 and read speed test is on 1700 instead of 3500.

Apparently not, as I have the same problem and have tested the 3060 with both the Samsung 970 Pro (3,500/2,700 MB/s) and the ADATA SX8200 Pro (3,500/3,000 MB/s) NVMe drives, and each is limited to PCIe 2.0 x4 (as proven by Intel RST and other diagnostic programs).
And on other desktop systems and laptops, these same NVMe SSDs perform at PCIe 3.0 x4 speeds right out of the box, with no issues or tweaking at all.
The Optiplex 3060 has a serious issue here, which effectively puts it back 5+ years in terms of PCIe bandwidth.

Yes this would work. But there is something interesting I would like to share. You might not get the full performance though. I bought Samsung 970 Evo Plus 250GB for my Optiplex 3060 SFF. (My configuration is i5 8500 with 16GB RAM). On checking the official documentation here https://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/optiplex-3060-desktop_owners-manual4_en-us.pdf I can confirm that yes the PCI version for NVMe SSD is 2.0 x4 not 3.0 x4 as we all were expecting. That's the reason my SSD is bottlenecking at 1.7GBPS where as it can go upto 3.5GBPS easily.
