GX270, need ram specifications
Right we have about 8 of these from previous employers were I work at and when they left they took all the ram out of them claiming they bought new ram. Now I never saw how much they put in nor do I know how much they originally had. I now after to set them up for people to use doing basic internet search i.e Search for jobs and also using office. Now I know there are 4 slots for the ram to go so I'm going to assume that they had roughly about quarter gig ram each slot which would give it 1gb altogether. So what and how much ram would be best to put in for what they will be getting used? Like I said just job searching, building C.V s and using office 07. Thanks in advance.

Hi Royston8791,
You can find the memory specifications on page 171 of the service manual:
https://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_optiplex_desktop/optiplex-gx270_user%27s%20guide_en-us.pdf
You don't mention which Operating System is installed, this will determine how much RAM you need to for it to run smoothly. You'll need at least 1GB, probably 2, for most versions of Windows.

4 Gigs is max
HOWEVER you would be much better off buying a newer system Like an Optiplex GX620 or better Tower.
GX620 all the way to GX760 can run MSDOS all the way thru windows 10. The GX620 is the best transition machine because it has BOTH sata and IDE interfaces as well as optional serial and PS2 interfaces.
Really Early pentium 4 chips need to be replaced by Pentium D 915 but once you have that you can go all the way to windows 10. This means you can use these even after 2025.
The other Reason to go to GX620 MINI Tower or better is that they have PCI-E video.
Full size Mini Tower allows standard power supply to replace any that fail or need to be upgraded past 290 to 305w to accomodate a faster more powerful video card.

For a few more dollars you can get them with windows 10. I tell my clients these are essentially free computers because they are the same cost as the windows 10 software without a computer.

This is however a really OLD 32 bit NON WIN8 OR 10 compatible pentium4 single core AGP DDR based system.
Its never going to be good at anything modern on the internet.

If the previous employers took all RAMs, then they probably were 1Gb each, as this is the only reason why it makes sense :)
I would recommend minimum 1,5Gb RAM, minimum Windows 7 (that still supports latest browsers versions) and Pentium 4 with hyperthreading support (P4 650 for example). With those specs you can use the PCs for the tasks you mentioned. But basic Internet surfing might also include watching videos (Youtube, etc.) and web sites with flash. GX270 might not be sufficient for that.
