Optiplex 3050 Mini Tower - SSD Drive - Need Rails?

Optiplex 3050 Mini Tower

Adding a SSD to help a old slow program used for a business.

I see the housing for adding a 2.5" SSD but a normal 3.5 to 2.5 adapter doesn't fit.  So I guess it needs rails?

Thanks.

Dell Does this the same on most models with a caddy inside a caddy R494D  (F767D R494D J132D)

You lost me. The SSD connects directly to the onboard M.2 SSD connector on the motherboard. It doesn't go in the housing with the other drives? See the Owner's Manual, pages 20-21. For my notes, send me the service tag number via Private Message.

2.5".  Not M.2.

2.5" needs a adapter with rails to slide into the 2.5" case slots.

Thanks.

2.5 sata SSD's require R494D to mount into the 3.5 rails.

This is common for many Models from Optiplex GX620 all the way thru 990 as well as 3020 3040 3050 etc.

The R494D is needed if the original 3,5 Hard Drive is being Replaced.

The DUAL  2.5 inch Blue Caddys on the other side are  2.5 SSD Bracket X9FV3

Understood. But why go with the much slower SATA SSD versus the M.2 SSD?

Good question.  The Samsung Evo drives has been a standard for us when replacing or supplementing hard disk drives.

A change we probably need to start considering.

But for this computer with only 2 day a week usage for 4 hours the standard SSD 2.5" will make them super happy.

But for customers that are running sluggish business applications, the m.2 drives may be a better choice.

Thanks for the insight.
