I have an Optiplex 3050 SFF that immediately crashes on power failure, even though it is connected to a new APC Back-UPS Pro 1300. Other devices remain functional. Tried a Tripp Lite Internet Office 750U with the same result.
Is this a problem with the Optiplex PSU? We also have Optiplex 9020 SFF's on UPS, but they do not have this issue. Thoughts?
You show an ups that is 1500VA and then Link a 400VA ups that doesn't have a dell part number. This in no way invalidates my previous post.
If you have technical or engineering standards to refute that then please post.
If you have actual PPID for Dell Brand UPS or OEM for Dell that in no way invalidates the requirements for a PFC power supply needing true sine wave UPS.
Computers with active power factor correction (PFC) design requires true Sine Wave source.
Active Power Factor Correction (PFC) is a method or technique to improve the Power Factor of a PSU or SMPS. Today all the good power supplies comes with Active PFC having Power Factor (PF) of 0.80 or more at 100% Load.
Acquiring a different UPS with pure some wave is a very good idea. Newer PSU's can be more sensitive to that. Dell also does specify pure sine wave.
As for your current UPS:
Stepped approximation to a sinewave isn't pure sine wave. Some UPS's are made like that because it's cheaper.
The good news I didn't find any evidence that the stepped sinewave damages PSU's. I'm not saying it doesn't exist though. I did find that stepped sinewave can cause buzzing issues in PSU's or cause PC's to not work.
