Optiplex 740

I recieved a used Optiplex 740 desktop (Athlon64 2.3GHz/1GB RAM), and would like to replace my current "ibm" with it. I know what I need, but I want to know if I can just drop in a new GFX card, or does the original Dell MoBo, specifically the BIOS, have (silly mfg) limitations?

And yes, that ancient Athlon is still more powerful then the silly Celeron in my current system.

T_HOLM,

The card needs to meet the system and power specs for the card to work. The bios will accept the card as long as the specs are met. You can click the link below to download the online manual for specs of the system. You can then compare the specs with the card you are wanting to add into the computer.

Sure the Athlon is better than a Celeron but if you use modern GPU's then you'd bottleneck the old CPU.
