Optiplex 785 , Xeon X3330, CPU upgrade?
I got an Optiplex 785 with 4GB of the original ram, two HDD, and the GTX 550 Ti. I try to add the Xeon X3330 CPU but with no result first all seems to work well. But then I try to update drivers. But Windows detects my old CPU? I try to update but then it say every boot that the CPU is not compatible and Windows crash at boot. Can someone help?

First, There is no such model Optiplex 785 OptiPlex
Second the X3330 LGA 775 chip will not drop into a 745 755 760 780 790. There are physical barriers to prevent this.
Third, the Bios likely does NOT have the microcode for the CPU.
You have to use a flex circuit on the underside to swap some pins before it will attempt to work.

None of this IS or WILL BE supported by Dell.

The max CPU the 755 can take is an Intel Core 2 Quad 9650. It's not meant to take Xeon's. I've heard of modded Xeon's, or using adapters, but can't speak as much as to those. Your MB is not meant for the X3330. This also backs what speedstep said.
Also, check out this thread regarding a successful case of modded Xeon E5450 install on a motherboard with the Socket 775.
Another thread here shows an Optiplex 755 user replace CPU with a X3363, and rated faster than both the Core 2 Quad Q9650 and the Xeon E5450.
The above 2 pghs. were a couple of suggestions by @bmcowboy when I inquired about modded Xeon's. This does not mean modded Xeon's are supported by Dell.

Hi @EIRBLAST ,
Further suggestion: Buy a refurnished C2Q Q9650 instead.
There do have Optiplex 755 installed with X3330, like this one, with CPU score at 30 something. However, those with Q9650 scored at 40+.
You may get one from Amazon at US$53 ~ $59.

Installing a C2Q Q9650 is what I did with my 755. I bought it used from eBay for $41 and it came in brand new condition. EBay also has refurbs. The Q9650 is a safe bet as some info on modded Xeon's can be conflicting.
In the thread about the E5450, it says "insert the cpu 90 degrees rotated." I thought "90 degrees rotated from what?" It doesn't say; and the MB already has the processor at a 45° angle (except in the USFF).
