Optiplex 9020 SFF PSU (Power Supply Unit) Up-grade ?
Trying to up-grade my power supply from the 255w to a 400w +/- model,
but this is a very confusing task.
Has anyone up-graded their PSU, and if so, what is the correct model/type
for this replacement ?

All 9020 models use proprietary 8 pin connector instead of the standard 24 pin so there are no replacements other than those from dell.
You should also note there isn't a video slot on this motherboard.

Its probably the 4FCWX / VX372 315W unit for the Optiplex XE2
I do not own one so YMMV.

This is the ONLY 315w unit I know of. Visually it looks like it would work.

Double wide card wont fit the X16 slot without the cover off and X16 riser cable.

Hi @rspowell69 ,
Check and found no options for 9020 PSU upgrade officially from Dell. Maybe it's designed this way in order to prevent high-powered GPU upgrade causing it unstable and overheat within the little SFF.
If you plan for a GPU upgrade for it, better stick to the original 255w PSU and choose those low-powered low-profile display card.

The picture above is an USFF motherboard. We're talking about SFF here with motherboard like this one which contains one x16 slot.

Hi @francsal,
By any chance do you have the link for the PSU you found at Amazon?

If you want to use a bigger power supply that still fits INSIDE the case, there is a 315W option in amazon. It has the same 8 pin connector. If, however, you are willing to have the PSU OUTSIDE of the case, you can get any PSU and use a 24-to-8 pin adapter.

Sorry for not answering the question, but yes, that was precisely the power supply I got. I also got a 6 to 8 pin pcie adaptor, a PCIE riser cable.... and a GTX 1660 SUPER! Running like a swiss watch! Obviously, the card is outside the case, since it will never fit inside.... but I really don't care that much about that! So, I got rid of my 1050 Ti and now I'm enjoying my new GPU!
I'm mainly using it for flight sim (X-Plane 11), and it gave a healthy boost to my FPS.

Hey -- I have a similar question (I've been trying to upgrade the same model) -- does this actually fit the 9020? It looks like it was made for a different model, and pictures from other sites show a third, black connector that doesn't line up with the original PSU.
I would love to buy this but I want to know for sure first. Thanks!

What's the "it" your referring to? The 315w PSU from the XE2 SFF?

Done. On my 3020, the 315W PSU fits perfectly and runs cooler under the same load. Mission accomplished.

I tried to do the 24 pin to 8 pin adapter with a 600 watt bronze rated EVGA psu. Whenever I tried to boot it up, the front fan, cpu fan and psu fan would be the only ones running and reving up and down at a consistent speed. There was also a clicking noise which is not a harddrive, optical drive, fan touching a cable. I believe the problem could be with the adapter cable, but it is very possible that it is with the motherboard though it runs perfectly fine with the default 255w psu...
