Optiplex 990 Bios update question

I get notices from Dell indicating that I need to update the BIOS of my OptiPlex 990, but when I follow the link to download and install, I'm told that I must first install AO5 in order to proceed.  After downloading and attempting to install AO5, I'm next told the I must "configure Windows to allow flashing".  A quick search regarding that issue leads to instructions for editing the registry, but the key that I'm told to delete doesn't exist.

Is there a solution to this mystery, or am I to just ignore the continuing update notices?

Any assistance with this issue will be appreciated.

My assistance is to say ...

Don't fix what's not broken, unless you like bricks.
Or said another way ... Don't fix it until it's broken

See this page and its URL-Links:

If you have an actual reason to update the BIOS (and you think it's worth the risk) feel free to continue. Someone here might even be able to help you with that:

and all files are here:

Sometimes BIOS updates on these older machines just doesn't go so well. Also, with all the reported problems users have, I sometimes wonder if all the files sitting on the Dell servers are still perfect and usable for their marked purpose. Be careful.

Thanks.  Now I'll have to look for a way to stop the daily notices from Dell.

You can uninstall SupportAssist ... and/or Dell Update.
