Add new hard drive into array
I currently have Dell PowerEdge 2600 and I need to add another hard disk into array5. How do I do this? Thanks, Linh.

This isn't possible as a GPT disk reserves about 128MB at the beginning of the disk for the partition table. This may seem like a lot, but compared to the size of the disk (2TB+), it's very little obviously.
This change isn't just as simple as making the disk space at the beginning of the disk and just convert.
Acronis has a few mentions of working on support for GPT disks (see here), but those are all dated from 2006 and nothing newer (so probably nothing out there yet from them). Every Google hit I find says you can only convert if the disk is blank (no partitions at all).
So you'll need to back up your data, delete your partition(s), convert to GPT, recreate your partition(s), and restore your data.

Hi Gary,
It is a Poweredge 2650 with Perc3D/i in the system. We are using Dell open manager 3.6. There were 3 80gig drives, we added 2 more yesterday at RAID 5. The SQL on the server is still running, so there is a fair amount of IO going on during the day. I was just a bit surprised that after all night without much IO, it is still running. So I want to see what percentage it is at.
Thanks.

F1_Champ,
Ok look here select the logical drive in the array group and the progress % should be seen in the general tab to the right.

For some reasons the process column shows nothing on our 2 servers. But they both just finished the reconstruction. It took almost 24 hours.
Thank you for your response.

Most likley cause is a mismatch in the controller F/W revision and the PERC 3/Di driver version, they should both match.

Thank you for replay regarding my question.
My problem happened after Raid_5 logical drive expansion from 2TB (4x750G) to 3.4TB (6x750G) using Dell Open Manage on Dell PowerEdge 2950 with Perc 5/i. In windows drive was configured as Basic before expansion. Open Manage hadn't generated any warning or and hadn't reconfigured windows drive to Dynamic during the expansion procedure.
A s a result after expansion windows see 3.4TB drive but can't use available free space because of Basic disk configuration.
Do you know if there is any way to configure this 3.4TB disk as Dynamic in Windows without reinstalling the server?
