Can’t remove or clear old drives configuration from PERC 6/I (Dell PowerEdge server 2950)
Can’t remove or clear old drives configuration from PERC 6/I controller after we face problem with the old drives, perc 6/i
I use to have 4 hard drives configured as raid 5 on PERC 6/I; two of them crashed and I purchased another two drives as replacement
Now whenever I start configurations for the raid still I can see the old drives on PERC configuration screen, the old drives was SEGATE SAS and the new drives are DELL SAS
I have tried the following
- Shutting down the server completely and remove all drives
- Starting the server without drives
- Then putting the drives one by one and monitor the PD management on the PERC configuration screen
- The controller can’t identify the DELL drives, it shows only SEGATE
- I tried to change the slot for drives between drives, no chance, the same problem
- I tried to clear foreign configuration, not fixed
- Remove all configuration and configure again, not fixed
Looks like the are some data available on the raid itself; but I can’t clear it, any advice please

Can you try this:
With all disks inserted, go to the PERC Bios. Push F2 when on controller.
Then choose "Clear Config"
Reboot
