Centos 7.2 and PowerEdges R430

Centos 7.2 and PowerEdges R430

Hi there,

I'm trying to install Centos on PE R430 but after the installation, when booting, Linux start with black page  and doesn't continue.

Then I tried some linux distributions and I've seen that for example Debian 8 is installed and it works, but debian 9 does not, centos 7 does not work, etc .. I have tried with V.3X kernel and it works, but with V.4X kernel , it does not work.

What do you advise me to solve the problem?

Are there any other pcie cards installed? I am not seeing anything that limits that card to the 3.x kernel.

Hi everyone,

I am stucked with this installation.
I have a PE R430 and trying to install centOS 7 or CentOS 8 with no success.
Firmware and Bios are updated to latest available versions.
With CentOS 7 I got the following errors.

The raid controller is a PERC H730 Mini.

If need more information please let me know.
I am sure that is a driver problem but not sure how many drivers are in conflict and where to obtain all of them to introduce on the CentOS iso.

Please any help will be much appreciated

Hello @fbergmann!

There is not any official Dell documentation explaining CentOS installation on a PowerEdge Server. Because as you can read here: Dell EMC Enterprise Operating Systems, we consider CentOS is a community-developed derivative of the Dell-supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

So, if you take this in consideration, you could try to use drivers for this Linux version. If you go to the drivers & Downloads for this server you will be able to select the corresponding Red Hat Enterprise Linux version.

In general, you might not need to have the latest firmware versions, but the versions compatible with the OS you are trying to install. You need to check this equivalency on CentOS support site or forums.

Finally, as you can also read in the article. Normally, the support for this operating system is available directly from the CentOS community

Regards.
