Create 2 virtual disks in the PERC

Hi

We have PowerEdge 1950 server with HD extension PowerVault MD1000 (4.5 TB in RAID5) connecting via SCSI cables.

Howto create 2 virtual 2TB disks in the PERC?

  1. During POST, watch for the first Ctrl-R option, hit Ctrl-R for the Perc 6/i controller:

 

  1. Hit F2 to Create a new VD

 

  1. Create the VD from this page:

 

4.Hit Enter to select RAID Level, then tab to Physical disks. With the space bar, select the drives for the

RAID level you have chosen. In this example, it’s a 3 drive RAID 5.  Tab to VD size, then tab to VD

Name and provide the name of the array. Tab again and select advanced settings, using the space

Bar . Tab down to init and use the space bar to select.  Tab to OK and enter.  This will create your

Array.

 

 

Once the array is created,  you will restart, and watch for the 2nd Ctrl-R prompt. At this prompt, you should be in the Perc 6/e controller for the external array. You will follow the same steps to create the arrays on this box.

Good morning.   What 2 controllers do you have installed in this server? You should have one for the internal drives, and one connected to the external array.   With this information we can further assist you.

Thanks.  What model are your controllers?   Perc? SAS?  They have different setups.

There are 2 controllers:

1.) for the internal drive -> 40GB

2.) for the external drive iSCSI > 4.5 TB in RAID5

We would like to cretae 2 virtal 2TB disks on the external drive.

Thanks.  Run the following command and this will give us the information we need:

lspci -vvvnnn  

this will provide the vendor and specific information for each device.
