DELL 15G server + HDD / SSD not from DELL

Question

Hello everyone.

I'm going to buy a DELL 15G server, such as R250 or R350 and I would like to install SSDs in it (RAID 1), but not from DELL, for example Samsung SM883 while they are still available.

Has anyone of you a 15G server with non-original disks?

I wonder if I will be able to monitor their status from the iDRAC9 like S.M.A.R.T. or update the firmware in them, etc.

Can work.... but not gurantee. What i have seen in the last 15 years

Disk not regocnized by the system(PERC)
Disk was regocnized but raised an amber warning light
Disk looks to work....but failed later. One example was the desktop drives was used which goes into paused mode after some time or when nothing todo which confused the PERC of course
Problem to applying FW updates because drives hide after the RAID controller and are not directly visible for the OS or APPs. No the iDRAC will not update FW for non-dell stuff
You have to buy the disk tray from china, alliexpress, ebay
Working like a charm

So.... youre on your own.

I'm aware of the problems in general and I'm guessing they'll work physically.

I am interested in the failure notification.

I was wondering if anyone specifically has this new generation of servers with a PERC H355 controller and Samsung SM883 or PM883, PM893, PM897 SSDs.
Will the status of these disks be visible in iDRAC or not?

If these drives cannot be monitored in iDRAC, maybe with DELL OMSA they will be visible?
